At first . . .

. . . it was bashful, innocent and shy.
After meeting it was brighter,
then a calm, considering look,
finally shining come-hither-now,
         eager hope.

Next it was wan and sad,
with shy innocence still there,
then anger and sadness with
ring still on wedding finger.

So much wanting of telling, sharing,
aloneness such an hard wall between,
I could hardly hope for such a gem
of earnest desiring and innocence . . .
. . . in ______'s shining eyes and
         sweet smile.
